Present a game:

Activity: Knock Out Challenges Build-up

a) Reasoning:

  • Pre- bowling game
  • Pre-curling game
  • Rolling Practice
  • Decision Making Game
  • Strategy game
  • Hand-Eye coordination
b) Formation: Players in the gym around the circle

 c) Equipment: 50 or more tennis balls

 d) Description:

There are three games that build up to the game of Bocce Ball.

Game 1: Target Roll

- Students form groups and divide up the tennis balls

- Big circles are on the gym floor with tape or drawn

- students roll the ball to the circle and try to get the tennis ball inside the circle

- When all the balls are used, each team counts how many balls ended up inside the circle

Game 2: Rolling Points

- Create different sizes of circles on the floor and assign points to the circles

- Smallest circle would have the highest number

- You get a point when the ball is within a circle

- Object of the game is to get as many points as possible.

Game 3: Knock Out

- 2 teams  in opposite side of a big circle in the middle of the gym

- each team gets a different color ball

- Each player takes a turn from a line 1 m away from the circle by rolling the tennis ball into the circle, either knock the other team's balls out of the circle or put their ball in the circle

- One player from each team can stand by the circle to indicate which ball to hit

- The teams take turns.

- The team with the most balls in the circle at the end of the game wins.

 e) Modifications:

- Change the size of the circles

- Competition vs cooperative: Focus on points won by an entire team rather than each individual.

- Modify the activity to the best of the capabilities of the participants.

- Use yellow tennis balls

- Use different colors or write numbers on the ball to indicate the team

- For children in a wheelchair: have them bounce the ball softly, put in opposite teams, have an assistant, have them stand by the circle to indicate which ball to knock out.
